Zoomski’s - More than just a Coffee Shop!

 zoomski-logo-small.GIF

Zoomski’s Coffee Shop located in Little Falls, MN does the independant cafe industry proud!

The staff and owner of Zoomski’s take immense pride in their coffee and espresso drinks. This is most evident by their attention to only serving Fair Trade Organic coffee and espresso, but by also being Golden Cup Certified!

Not only do they make great beverages, but their food is prepared with the same attention to detail and top-notch quality. They are a drive-through, but also have seating for enjoying food and drink inside the cafe.

They do a very nice job with their lunch catering and also host a small Farmer’s Market every Wednesday and Saturday on their property.

Here are some pictures from the cafe, of some of their amazing delicacies, and their Farmer’s Market.

Coffee Irony

jamaican-blue-mountain.jpg

Wednesday, Jesse decided to round out a busy day at Upper Midwest Gourmet by specially roasting some Jamaican Blue Mountain and putting a freshly roasted pot in the showroom for all to enjoy. I was on my way out the door but I filled up my travel mug, because I just could not pass up a chance taste of such a highly acclaimed and desired coffee. Jamaica, with its ideal growing conditions, has provided the coffee community with one of the most expensive and highly sought after coffees in the world. Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is a globally protected certification mark meaning that only coffee certified by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica can be labeled as such. What I’m trying to tell you is…

Jamaican Blue Mountain is the Holy Grail of coffees.

jbm_certificate.jpg

Cut to, my after work stop, retrieving the next Harry Potter book from Barnes and Noble’s used book section. As usual, I can’t wait to start reading, so I choose to have a seat and sip on my newly acquired cup of Jamaican in the store’s cafe, which just so happens to be a Starbucks.

I hope you appreciate the irony as much as I did.

Upper Midwest Gourmet going to 4 day work week?

Hi Everyone.

It is part of my daily mission at Upper Midwest Gourmet to find ways to:

a: Be a greener company (improve our environmental impact on the earth)

b: Lower operating costs to help offset price increases

c: Improve quality of life for staff

I came across an article in this weekends Minneapolis Star and Tribune that addresses all of these issues through the conversion to a 4 day work week.  If you paste the following link into your browser you can read about how this change can work to benefit a company like ours and in turn help us to benefit your company as well.  The link:

http://www.startribune.com/local/28333109.html

I’m looking for feedback from all our customers as to what you would think of this change?  We would adjust our hours to be open Monday - Thursday from 7:30 am to 5 pm (currently M-F 9am-4pm).  We would be consolidating the Tuesday and Friday Van routes to both take place on Tuesday.  This should save us money on: fuel, labor and utilities while giving our staff the ability to enjoy more time with their families on the weekend.  While price increases are still unavoidable, this may be able to help offset the significance of some of the increases we’re seeing on the horizon.

If there is no uproar from our customers I’d consider implementing this change, on a trial basis, some time in October?  If it turned out that it was causing customers problems and we did not see any benefits to the change we could always change back to our traditional 5 day work week.

I’d really appreciate any feedback you may have so I have set up an online poll.  Please take a moment to check whether you’d be for or against this change.

Thanks in advance for your business, all of us here at Upper Midwest Gourmet appreciate it very much.

Cheers,

David Chall

Would you be ok with UMG changing to a 4 day week and closing on Fridays?

Visit Bella Caffe in Park Rapids, MN for a wonderful cafe experience!

Next time you are in Northern Minnesota take some time to enjoy a beautiful cafe in Park Rapids called “Bella Caffe.”

dscf0072.JPG

Thom and Cathy Peterson are the owners and they did a great job of creating the perfectly authentic Italian motif for their cafe. They serve espresso and coffee, fruit smoothies, wine, beer, cheeses, antipasto, paninis, treats, and much more.

I truly enjoyed my experience at their cafe and am positive you will as well.

An Ageless Debate.

While I acknowledge that this has little to do with coffee, and by “little” I actually mean “nothing,” it is an interesting study nonetheless and worthy of our perusal.

Please note that Upper Midwest Gourmet is firmly entrenched in Popville, and we expect you to honor that vernacular when placing orders. And yes, I realize that we don’t sell Pop. I mean Soda.

What do you call it?

SCAA Roaster’s Guild Retreat 2008

Ahhhhhh…

A great weekend of roasting and hanging out with other roasters. Most of us are pretty starved for contact with other people who care about maximizing acidic snap by quickening first crack ramp-up.

Summers Over, time to gear up for Fall

Well Northerners, the chilly mornings and evenings are finally here.  That means it’s time to start re-arranging inventory and moving back into the hot beverages.  Make sure you raise your par levels on Chai Tea and Syrups for Hot Drinks.  We are taking pre-orders for Ghirardelli Christmas / Holiday candy for the next 2 weeks so talk to your sales rep. and place your special orders now.  Pumpkin Spice, Peppermint, Pralines, Creme D Menthe, Egg Nog and all the other Holiday flavors are all back in stock here and should be on your shelves too.  Don’t wait to follow Starbucks lead.  Make them follow you!   Cheers, David

Fresh Coffee

Just a reminder to all our coffee customers.  Our Roasterie roasts all of your coffee when you order it.  Many other companies claim to do this but we really do operate like this.  There is no giant stock of roasted beans on the shelf for days and weeks at a time.  Occasionally we can pull coffee from a batch that is scheduled to deliver the next day or increase the size of a batch of coffee about to be roasted to accommodate a rush order.  However, we cannot guarantee that if you order coffee on Monday that we can roast, cool, package, label and ship your order on the same day.  We require you place your coffee orders by 11:00 am the day before you need the beans to be shipped.  If you order coffee on Monday it will ship on Tuesday or if you are a local Van route customer it will be roasted the day before your next delivery.  Please remember this when planning your coffee inventory.  It is our goal to have you serve the freshest and best coffee possible and we don’t want to have to put bags on the shelf waiting an extended amount of time before your next order. Also remember that we Gold Cup Certify all exclusive Flamenco Coffee customers at no charge.  Feel free to talk to any of our 3 gold cup staff members to schedule a time to have your store certified.     Cheers, David
